PARKS COMMITTEE MISSION STATEMENT
(approved by the General Membership July 2000)
The Mission of the CNA Parks and Greenspace Committee (Parks Committee)
is to achieve a healthy, sustainable, robust, functional, and aesthetically
beautiful parks and greenspace system within our neighborhood. The
parks system should provide active and passive recreation opportunities
for all CNA residents, while respecting the privacy and rights of the property
owners and residents adjacent parks and other public greenspaces.
HEALTH

The water in our creeks (both in public and private land) should be non
polluted, fresh, clean and supportive of aquatic plant and animal life.

The parks and greenspaces (both public and private) should support balanced
plant and animal life indigenous to the region.

The parks and greenspaces should be safe.
SUSTAINABILITY
-
The natural and man-made components of the parks and greenspace system
should be self maintaining.

Plant materials should be self propagating and not (in the long term) dependent
on artificial watering or cultivation.

Animal life should be balanced, should consist of indigenous species, and
should be compatible with human use of the greenspaces.

The greenspace system should become a source of pride of all CNA residents,
enhancing quality of life and increasing property values.
ROBUSTNESS
-
The parks and greenspace system should become fully developed and functional.

Incentives and disincentives to property owners should exist, in order
to bring privately owned property into the greenspace system.

Where appropriate and compatible with adjacent uses, parks should provide
active recreational opportunities seven days a week, day and night.

The parks and public greenspaces should become places of community, where
residents come together and interact.
FUNCTION
-
Active and passive recreation activities should be encouraged and accommodated.

Parks and public greenspace should provide a respite from the traffic,
noise and the intensity of urban life.

Where possible, greenspaces should physically link parts of the neighborhood,
providing pedestrian and bicycle connections.
AESTHETICS
-
The parks and greenspaces should be compatible with the neighborhood (all
senses: visual, sound, smells etc.)

The parks and greenspaces should be beautiful.
