Dear Neighbor:
The Nominating Committee of the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association (CNA) would like to thank you for your interest in serving on the CNA Steering Committee.
As you probably know, the Steering Committee is made up of 13 residents, six of whom are elected in odd numbered years, and seven of whom are elected in even numbered years. Members serve two-year terms. The Steering Committee meets monthly and elects its own officers. Generally, the Steering Committee takes care of all CNA business – it ensures that the Flea is published and delivered, that quarterly meetings are conducted, and proposes policy matters for the neighborhood’s consideration
Attached is the CNA Steering Committee Candidate Form. Please take the time to complete this form and return it to Jim, Dave, or me. We hope to obtain Candidate Forms from all interested persons by about mid-September in order to complete our work in time for the election held at the October general meeting.
The Candidate Form is intended to help the Nominating Committee evaluate candidates in terms of diversity, skill, enthusiasm, interest, and background. For the Steering Committee to operate effectively and efficiently, varying skills, interests and opinions need to be represented. Also, the CNA Bylaws provide that the Steering Committee be diverse geographically, and in such areas as age, gender, and occupation. It is our goal to select nominees for consideration and possible election at the October general meeting who best reflect the neighborhood’s diversity of backgrounds, interests, experience and geography.
Please note that although the system of electing one-half the Steering Committee each year may imply that a “new” group of Steering Committee members will be elected, the CNA Bylaws specifically provide that prior or current Steering Committee membership does NOT prevent nomination. So, if you are a current or prior Steering Committee member, please feel free to complete a Candidate Form.
Finally, we hope no one is discouraged from participating in neighborhood activities if you are not selected for nomination for election at the October general meeting. There are many committees and CNA activities which badly need help, and the Nominating Committee will retain your Candidate Form for consideration should a vacancy occur on the Steering Committee in the next year, as well.
Still interested? If so, please return the completed Candidate Form to: Jim Walker, 3102 Breeze Terrace, phone 499-0526; Dave Westenbarger, 1707 E. 38 ½ Street, phone 494-9905, Lex Dale Owens, 1803 E. 40th, phone 477-6555, Priscilla Boston, 4004 Vineland Dr., phone 478-1867, or me, Michael McClendon, 3501 Hollywood Ave, phone 482-0016, or by email to <mmcclendon1@austin.rr.com> .
Thank you for your interest!
